New Jennifer Lopez Track Leaked

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

A new track by the comeback-hungry Jennifer Lopez was leaked onto the Internet today.

Called “Hooked on You,” the song is a mid-tempo club jam with lyrics about dancing that seem to serve as a double entendre.

Entertainment watchers such as Ace Showbiz speculate that the song will be featured on her upcoming compilation album, Greatest Hits.

Widely known as J. Lo, the 39-year-old star broke into the music scene in 1999 with the debut album “On the 6,” on the heels of an acting career that took off half a decade prior.

Since then, she has released five more albums, and has been named by Forbes magazine as the richest person of Latin American descent. But her most recent musical effort, Brave, from October of 2007, has struggled in comparison to earlier works, selling 53,000 copies in the first week.

Jennifer Lopez is reportedly starting a new career as a TV and film producer

Monday, February 9th, 2009

Jennifer Lopez is on the cusp of hitting the 10-year anniversary of her recording career, but any celebrating likely has more to do with her film and television projects.

Lopez has signed on to produce the Fox television series “Rebel,” a remake of an Argentine teen telenovela. The Hollywood Reporter describes it as being about “a pop band made up of teens who go to an elite private high school.”

The singer also has a film project, “Plan B,” which is moving forward now that Alan Poul has signed on to direct. “Plan B” will begin shooting in May and is slated for a January 2010 release.

What does this mean for Lopez, who has sold more than 48 million albums worldwide?

For starters it’s looking like her music career is on the back burner. This is a win-win for two reasons: Both “Rebel” and “Plan B” are being produced, at least in part, by Nuyorican Productions, which she co-founded with Benny Medina, the manager with whom she recently reunited. Medina and Lopez were spotted together in Washington D.C. during the inauguration.

“As long as Benny isn’t cut out of her projects, he’s happy. They both benefit now. The way they see it, Jennifer doesn’t have to be involved in musical projects in order for her to be successful,” says a longtime business associate of Lopez’s.

Also, these projects allow her to have some professional distance from husband Marc Anthony.

“Jennifer hasn’t been able to be considered a real recording success since she’s been with Marc,” says the source. “No matter how hard she tries, she can’t go back and be Jenny From the Block. Those days have passed, and it’s not what Jen or Marc want. Having another film success or being behind a really great show will be better for both their careers.”

U.S. television director-producer Alan Poul is in final negotiations to direct “Plan B,” a romantic comedy starring Jennifer Lopez, CBS Films said Monday.

Poul’s small-screen credits include “Swingtown,” “Big Love” and “Six Feet Under.”

His expected participation in “Plan B” was announced Monday by Amy Baer, president and chief executive officer of CBS Films, a division of the CBS Corp. (NYSE:CPV)

Set to begin filming in May, the movie is scheduled to open in theaters in January 2010. It will be CBS Films’ first release and will mark Poul’s feature directing debut.

Written by Kate Angelo, “Plan B” is about a single woman (Lopez) who turns to artificial insemination to answer her ticking clock, only to see her back-up plan turned upside down when the man of her dreams shows up at the same time as her positive pregnancy test results. Casting for the male lead is currently under way, CBS Films said.

“Alan’s impressive body of work reflects his ability to depict relatable characters in unexpected circumstances,” Baer said in a statement. “Kate’s script combines laugh-out-loud physical humor with genuine emotion. We think Alan’s fresh vision is the perfect match to Kate’s fresh voice.”

Jennifer Lopez Eyes Move to Washington Heights

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

Film and recording star Jennifer Lopez could be taking up residence in one of Broadway’s favorite neighborhoods—or In the Heights, to be exact. The famous face has been giving the Tony Award winning production a lot of face time, according to the New York Post, taking in the show twice last week and reportedly discussing roles with producer Meryl Poster.

While a representative for Lopez says, “She loves the play but is not Broadway bound,” rumors have begun to circulate that the famous triple-threat may be eying a move to the stage. More likely, say insiders, is the possibility of Lopez joining the forthcoming film adaptation of the hit tuner, announced earlier this year by Universal Pictures, which has acquired film rights to the show (Tony Award winning leading man and creator Lin-Manuel Miranda is slated to play a producing role in the big screen transfer, while bookwriter Quiara Alegria Hudes will pen the screenplay).

Fortunately, producer Poster already has experience bringing Broadway to the big screen—she also produced the acclaimed film version of the long-running Chicago.
