A group of eight students from PS 37 in Staten Island’s Great Kills neighborhood, had a very special guest in attendance for their graduation today: Jennifer Lopez. The singer/actress visited the facility, a school for autistic children, to see the group of 10-and-11-year-olds perform her song “Let’s Get Loud” at their graduation ceremony. The class was first introduced to Lopez’s music a few months ago when they had to choose a song to dance to at graduation. Teacher Kathy Amati and paraprofessional Rose Mondella showed the students the “Let’s Get Loud” video as a suggestion, and the class of eight boys loved it. They wanted to watch it every day and learned all of the lyrics and dance moves from the video.
“The kids don’t even really understand how famous she is,” said Ms. Amati. “They just really like her singing and dancing.” After observing the boys’ enthusiasm, Ms. Amati and Ms. Mondella decided to have the children write letters to Lopez, which were sent to her fan clubs. While their teachers were only hoping for a few pictures or maybe even an autograph, the students always expected more. “From the minute we wrote the letters, they just automatically thought she would come,” Ms. Amati said. Finally, a response from the singer came yesterday afternoon when one of her representatives called the school wanting to know the time of the graduation ceremony because Lopez wanted to attend.

Ever since Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony brought twins Max and Emme home from the hospital in February, their mansion has turned into one crazy casa. It’s gotten even nuttier now that her mom, Guadalupe, has moved into their Long Island, N.Y., home to help after the nanny quit. “All you can hear is noise,” an insider tells Star. “Screaming, phones ringing, babies crying, TVs blaring. It’s madness.” It doesn’t help that the pop diva micromanages everything. To deal with the stress, Marc locks himself away to prepare for his upcoming world tour. Adds the source, “Jennifer and Marc love each other, but the pressure to keep their careers going while having twins can be too much for anyone.”

Jennifer Lopez ranked #11 on Glamour.com’s 50 most glamorous women of ‘08. “She commands the red carpet,” says Lieberman. Sure, it all started long ago with that green dress, but Jen is Most Glam the same year she gave birth to twins. How fab!

Call her Jenny on the Hill. Jennifer Lopez met with Barack Obama’s staff this week as she toured Washington to talk about issues close to her heart. (The Illinois senator was away at the time). “Ms. Lopez was on the Hill with her sister to meet with staff members of several senators to discuss issues she is interested in, such as health care and education,” Lopez’s rep says of the Tuesday meeting. The mother of twins, Max and Emme, had a straightforward meeting, according to Obama’s spokesman. “She just came in for the meeting and departed,” says the spokesman. He adds: “It was not campaign-related.”

From fly-girl to Latina pop princess to movie star, Jennifer Lopez’s career spans the entertainment gamut. Despite lukewarm response to her latest album, Brave, and passion project El Cantante, she signed strong licensing deals, including her lucrative fragrance line. She’s set to return to her television roots with a yet to be named reality show for TLC.

The Politico reports Sen. Barack Obama’s “go-to Hollywood hottie is Scarlett Johansson, a starlet who trades frequent e-mails with the presumptive Democratic nominee, campaigns tirelessly on his behalf, hosts lucrative fundraisers and even appeared in that ‘Yes We Can’ viral video that got 10 million views in its first week online.” Johansson is “not alone. Jessica Alba is for Obama. So are Ryan Phillippe, John Legend, Anthony Kiedis, Taye Diggs, Kate Walsh and countless others.” Meanwhile, The Hill reports this morning that Jennifer Lopez “slipped into the Hart Senate Office Building on Wednesday afternoon for a mysterious meeting inside” Obama’s office. Lopez “surprised staffers when she was spotted walking through the Hart atrium and taking the elevator to Obama’s seventh-floor office.” Rumors “circulated that Lopez may be writing Obama a song.”
USNews & World Report
Singer and actress Jennifer Lopez slipped into the Hart Senate Office Building on Wednesday afternoon for a mysterious meeting inside presumptive Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama’s (Ill.) office. The Hollywood star, sporting a black cocktail dress and carrying an orange handbag, surprised staffers when she was spotted walking through the Hart atrium and taking the elevator to Obama’s seventh-floor office. When asked what brought her to the Hill, Lopez smiled. “I’m not ready to do any press yet,” she said, her eyes hidden behind a pair of big, black sunglasses. Word spread fast of Lopez’s presence, and a herd of staffers and tourists — thinking they were waiting to see Obama — amassed, their cell phone cameras at the ready. As it happens, Obama was scheduled to be in St. Louis, Mo., today at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Rumors circulated that Lopez may be writing Obama a song. As the throng continued to gather, Sens. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) and Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) walked by with little fanfare, and Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.) stopped short of walking into a photo visitors were taking by the nameplate outside Obama’s door. The security detail guarding Obama’s door grew from two to four as Lopez’s meeting continued. After an hour and a half passed, an Obama staffer came out to break the bad news. “She’s gone,” he said, explaining that she left even more secretively than she entered.
